CRITERIA FOR FUTURE CONGRESS LOCATIONS

The URBENVIRON ASSOCIATION holds international congresses on Environmental Planning and Management every other year. Previous locations have included: Brasilia (2005), Berlin (2007), Seoul (2009) and Cairo (2011).

Applications for host locations should be received at least two and a half years in advance of the event. Decisions are made by Urbenviron International Committee at least two years in advance of the congress.

The Programme for each Congress consists of plenary sessions, break-out sessions and poster presentations over a four-day period, involving between 800 to 1.200 participants. Official language is English. Papers presented at the event are published in ISBN registered Proceedings.

The registration fee normally covers materials, coffee breaks, lunch and the local technical tours.

The following are important criteria for location selection:

• International Airport and easy access to Congress venue
• Academic institution with graduate programme in urban management and environment
• The Congress coordinator must be a faculty member at this institution with at least a Doctor Degree
• Host committee to organize the scientific programme, technical tours and publication of papers
• Catering arrangements for coffee breaks and lunches
• Local financial support for a portion of the event costs (marketing materials, proceedings, some keynote speakers, social events and technical tours etc.)
• Meeting space to accommodate the sessions noted above
• Internet connections and projection equipments
• Available accommodations for participants at a range of prices
• Arrangements for optional pre or post-conference tours
• Provision of rentable space to exhibitors is desirable.
